TARIFFS FOR AIRFREIGHT
Prices (air freight rates) are always quoted per kg or 6dm3. This may also be called a volume ratio of 1:6 or 1m3 = 167kg. This means you pay either for the weight or for the space require to transport your consignment.
Whether you pay for the weight or the space it is determined using the following formula :
Length (cm) x width (cm) x height (cm) |
6000 Gives the volume weight in kg |
Example 1
You send 1 case weighing 80 kg with dimensions of 50 x 50 x 50 cm
You multiply: 50 x 50 x 50 cm = 125 000 cm3
You divide: 125 000 cm3 / 6000 = 20.83 kg volume weight.
Here the actual weight (80 kg) is higher than the volume weight (20.83 kg), so 80 kg will be charged as the billable weight.
Example 2
You send 8 boxes with a total weight of 45 kg.
All boxes are of equal size (60 x 40 x 20 cm per box).
You multiply: 8 boxes x 60 x 40 x 20 cm = 384 000 cm3.
You divide: 384 000 cm3 / 6000 = 64 kg volume weight.
Here the volume weight is greater than the actual weight, so 64 kg will be charged as the billable weight.
